RDF and SRF Description

RDF/SRF – Refuse Derived Fuel/Solid Recovered Fuel

Non recyclables, or hard to recycle waste, historically has been sent to landfill. Some of this waste is now finding a new home in an emerging and growing industry.

This waste is being turned into a fuel source, which can be burned to release energy. This fuel is being used in waste to energy plants and cement kilns.

The waste is turned into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), a solid state fuel, which can be quite mixed with many waste types, and the calorific value and residue produced can be quite varied.

Or Solid Recovered Fuel, is more consistent in quality, providing a better known calorific value and remaining residue after combustion.
