Using A Waste Transfer Station

Using A Waste Transfer Station

A Waste Transfer Station is a licensed location to which you are permitted to take your trade waste for disposal. To do this however you must have a waste carriers permit (follow the link to apply). Waste Transfer Stations will have prices for the range of wastes they take, they will also have restrictions on waste types they cannot accept or must be presented in a particular fashion, such as asbestos, which due to its nature is a hazardous waste stream and has strict requirements in handling and managing.

Other forms of hazardous waste such as fridges and freezers, WEEE waste, paints and other hazardous waste streams will need discussing with your transfer station to see if they manage this waste, and what requirements must be adhered to. We highly recommend if you have never used a transfer station to talk to them to find out exactly how they operate. The average transfer station will take mixed waste and then a range of single waste streams such as wood, plasterboard, hardcore, soil, plastics all for a range of prices reflecting a significant saving when bringing your waste in single waste streams.

On arrival you will need to show your waste carriers permit to ensure you are licensed to use their site, you will be turned away if you do not have this permit. Following this at most transfer stations they will take your vehicle weight and direct you to where you need to tip, after you have given your empty weight they will provide you with your waste note, this is a legal requirement and must be kept to provide an audit trail for the waste you have just disposed of.

If you are having difficulty finding licensed waste transfer stations take a look at our search facility to find your nearest locations.
