Pasterboard describes a range of boarding products which contain an inner layer of gypsum sandwiched between two sheets of “paper”. They can be used for fire spread reduction, noise reduction, boarding large areas of wall. Plaster board tends to absorb and degenerate in moist/wet environments, so even waste board should be stored in a dry environment.
Due to plaster board potentially releasing sulphides into the environment when burned, or left on landfill, plasterboard in the UK is now diverted from landfill, and can lead to load rejection if sent to RDF/SRF facilities. Although not officially falling under hazardous waste, end of life should be handled by a specialist recycler.
